Conditioned SSG – 6v4 Offense vs Defense

This drill focuses on teaching the art of attacking in numbers and building attack from the center of the field and finishing in the 4-2 (from 4-4-2 Diamond formation). This soccer drill also focuses on innervating tactical movements.

6v4 - Offense vs Diffense

Organization

  • Set up the field as showed in the diagram:
  • Two full size goals (GK in each goal)
  • Two smaller goals (made with cones)
  • Divide one team into Offensive team (6 players)
  • Divide one team into Defensive team (4 players)

Instructions
The offensive team (yellow) scores on the full size goals which are defended by a goalie. The defensive team (black) scores on the two smaller goals made with cones. Teams play for 7 minutes before moving to the next variation.

Variation 1
Players from offensive team have restricted number of touches on the ball – 3 touches

Variation 2
Players from offensive team have restricted number of touches on the ball – 2 touches

Variation 3
Players from offensive team have restricted number of touches on the ball – 1 touch

Coaching Points

  • Attacking team needs to focus on movement and passing patterns
  • Defending team needs to stay connected and move as a unit
  • When goalkeeper has the ball, the defensive team needs to find and make space to receive a pass
  • Passing and movement, with and without the ball
  • Quick reaction to transition of play
  • Patience in possession
  • Verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Switching the point of attack
